Europe
Austria:
The Senatus officers had a meeting with Cardinal Schoenborn who expressed his appreciation of the legionaries' visitation to those who have left the Church and of the contact with the ethnic communities. A praesidium of 10 members in Vienna helped set up a Filipino praesidium. The Viennese Student Curia carried out an apostolate during the Danube Festival. In the course of an extension drive by 25 legionaries in Salzburg, 15 priests were visited and 2 information meetings held. 100 people attended a Marian Congress following the drive. Visitation of praesidia, setting up of new praesidia, gaining new members, establishing of 2 new Nazareth children's groups and an attendance of 100 young children and parents at a Cana Festival were some of the items mentioned in the reports from the attached Curiae and Comitia. A commemoration Mass for the Servant of God Frank Duff was held in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna. Frank Duff prayer groups are being formed.
Countries under care of Senatus of Austria:
Croatia:
A 6-day Legion School on "The Legionary and The Eucharist" had an attendance of 74. The Croatian Peregrinatio Pro Christo team to Sarajevo met Cardinal Puljic who gave the Legion his support and blessing.
Slovenia:
Curia Ljublijanagained 3 new members. 3 of the 7 attached praesidia have full officerships.
Moldova:
Curia Chisinaugoverns 8 praesidia in 7 of the 11 parishes in the country. Br. Henrich Calice and Sr. Elizabeth Kriss visited in October and preparations were made to start praesidia in the 4 remaining parishes. This would enable 2 further Curiae to be established in Tiraspol and Belz. They met Bishop Cosa who approved this plan.
Romania:
Senatus of Austria received the thanks of Concilium for it's care of the Legion in this country, which has now been attached directly to Concilium.
Hungary Regia: Extension is ongoing. One new curia, 12 new praesidia were set up and 2 praesidia were closed. Works undertaken include promotion of Eucharistic Adoration, organising pilgrimages, teaching the Rosary to children, visitation of prisons and apostolate to the homeless, visitation of the sick at home and in hospital and arranging for patients to receive the Sacrament of Confession. Nagybatony Comitium has 3 curiae, 30 praesidia, 252 active members and 20 probationers. They have 14 Nazareth groups.
Latvia:
A praesidium of 7 members in Riga do street apostolate and hospital visitation. As a result of the visits 10 patients received the Sacrament of Confession. A monthly Mass organised by the legionaries in the hospital had a greatly increased attendance during the last year.
Lithuania:
A praesidium of 4 members visited 101 families. After regular call backs 2 Lutheran families are under instruction with a view to joining the Catholic Church. Attendance and participation in parish Patrician meetings is very good.
Poland
Warsaw Comitium:
The new Marlbork Curia presented its 1st report and told of very good work for young people in the Caritas Club. Many praesidia hold monthly meetings for auxiliaries and the correspondent suggested that they could become Frank Duff prayer meetings.
Lublin Regia: Legionaries throughout the Regia are very involved in organising prayer in the parishes by means of Eucharistic Adoration, all night Vigils and Jericho Rosaries. All are offered for the moral renewal of the nation. Some other works undertaken are prison visitation, homes visitation and direct apostolate to Jehovah's Witnesses. Some fruits of the work were 5 adults received Confession, 1 child baptised and a Jehovah's Witness family returned to the Church. Extension is ongoing in all the attached Councils. During their Peregrinatio Pro Christo project to Czech Republic, names of 12 prospective legionaries were passed to the local praesidium.
Asia
Indonesia
Jakarta Senatus: The Senatus annual Mass had an attendance of 1250. A letter from the Archdiocese invited the Senatus to the Indonesian Catholic Community Forum in October and a retreat for Catholic organisations on October 14th - 15th. Curia Kelapa Gading, Jakarta has 14 praesidia with 197 members. Extensive visitation of praesidia and councils is being carried out.
Malang Senatus:
A youth gathering organised by Surabaya Comitium had an attendance of 200. A praesidium reported the regularisation of a marriage and persons interested in the Catholic Church were visited. Another praesidium in its first annual report reported that legionaries helped with liturgies when requested by the parish priest.
Japan
Osaka Senatus:
There are 16 directly attached praesidia. Each month Senatus receives minutes from two Regiae, 1 Comitium and 4 Curiae. A praesidium at Kobri Church held its 2000th meeting. Another praesidium helps with weddings and funerals, they also bring Communion to the sick. Nagasaki Regia invited all officers to a retreat, 56 persons attended for 2 days in September. Tokyo Regia reported. At the meetings they discuss various problems and share their concerns. Two retreats were organised. Among their works is the recording of the Gospel reading for the hard of hearing.
Singapore Senatus:
A procession in honour of Our Lady of Fatima was organised by 3 Curiae. The Korean Curia presented a report. In Kota, Kinabalu Comitium, East Malaysia has 32 senior and 9 junior praesidia. In Brunei it is planned to set up a fourth Curia.
Hong Kong Comitium:
In the end of October there was a meeting of Spiritual Directors including 50 priests, Sisters and 12 teachers advisors of school praesidia. Many issues related to praesidia and Curiae were discussed. Works recorded include catechism classes, family rosary, prison visits, and distribution of VCD/DVDS for the Diocesan Visual Centre.
Korea
Seoul Senatus: Celebrations were held on 17th August to mark the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Legion of Mary into the Seoul Archdiocese. The Cheju Regia is also celebrating this year the 50th anniversary of the Legion in that Diocese. Choonchun Regia reported that during 1 year 1,126 catechumens, recruited by legionaries, had been baptised. There were 1,265 returns to the Sacraments. 12,533 visits were made to non-Catholics who were sick or infirm and there were 201 emergency baptisms. Jung-gu Comitium, Seoul, increased their membership by 223 active and 305 auxiliaries. They had an increase also of 43 praetorians and 5 adjutorians. They established 18 new senior and 2 junior praesidia. Dong-jak Comitium, Seoul, had 499 baptisms of catechumens recruited by legionaries and 523 returns to the Sacraments. The after care of newly baptised Catholics resulted in 128 joining parish organisations.
Gwangju Senatus: Special emphasis is being placed on home visitation. One praesidium recruited 5 catechumens. Another praesidium is active in street mission work and this work was also commended. One Curia reported 39 catechumens recruited.
Daegu Senatus:
A retreat and training session was held in July for officers of 8 Comitia and the presidents of their Curiae. Training sessions for legionaries were being held on two weekends in September and a special meeting for Comitium Presidents was also planned. Most reports mention the recruitment of many catechumens and good numbers of people baptised. They also report the recruitment of many new legionaries. There are 4 praesidia in a prison. Different Comitia are assigned by the Senatus to arrange for legionaries to visit the prison on 2 days each week, the first day to attend the praesidium meetings and the second day to attend Mass. Gyongsan Comitium established a Junior Curia. Andong Regia reported that there were 340 baptisms in the first six months of the year.
Taiwan
Taiwan Senatus:
One Comitium, 2 Curiae and 3 praesidia reported at the October meeting. The average membership of praesidia is 10. All members are active in their parishes. Where a priest is not available they assist with Liturgy services, conduct funerals and teach catechism. A Curia for migrants do crowd contact and teach catechumens the faith. The lapsed are sought out as well as the careless Catholics.
Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur Regia:
The annual reports record 13 praesidia with 100 active, 90 auxiliaries and 6 praesidia with 66 active and 254 auxiliaries. Works undertaken are home and hospital visitation and attending wakes and funeral Masses. One report showed 8 teaching catechism and conducting RCIA classes. The annual retreat was a success; there were 130 participants

Africa
Uganda
Senatus of Uganda:
Lugazi Comitium has 10 Curiae and 14 attached praesidia with 793 senior and 803 junior members. 53 traditional shrines were destroyed and 35 couples had their marriages blessed. Young people are contacted at amusement/video halls. Luzira Remand praesidium gave its 4th report. There are 22 members who teach prayers and the Rosary to the inmates, 1160 of whom took part in catechism classes. Of the 520 prisoners contacted118 joined the Legion realising for the first time the link between Our Lady and her Son. Contact is also made with the prison warders. In the same prison the Curia in the condemned section gave its 2nd report - on average 82 attend. 20 new members were gained. Prayer has intensified and many joined the Catholic Church.
Ethiopia
This country was visited by 2 Ugandan legionaries for 3 weeks in September. They found 2,750 members in 33 outstations, however due to the lack of Handbooks. etc. the Legion system is not fully understood.
Kenya
Senatus of Kenya:
The Senatus feels privileged to be asked to visit Tanzania on behalf of Concilium. Kisumu Regia with 18,735 active and 3,000 auxiliaries reported. Their works include home and hospital visitation, 1,270 marriages were validated, 2,560 were instructed and baptised and 1,973 children were baptised, 1,700 lapsed returned to the Faith and 328 Witch Doctors were instructed and had their tools burned.
Nigeria
Kaduna Regia:
Sokoto Comitium with 1,860 legionaries has 45 junior praesidia. Achievements include 17 lapsed returned to the Faith and 142 received Baptism and 912 First Holy Communion. The Concilium received a letter thanking them for the visit of Brothers Fay and Moyles.
Enugu Regia: Reports give details of 570 lapsed returned to the Church, 86 conversions, 28 Block Rosary centres established, 263 people recruited and 6 legionaries entered religion.
Ikot Ekpene Regia: Reports show 15 lapsed returned to the Church, 29 conversions and the Handbook is being translated at present.
Lagos Regia: It seems that too many activities are organised to the detriment of attendance at meetings and especially the Acies. One Curia set up 2 praesidia.
Ibadan Regia: The Regia recently created a new Comitium and a new Curia. It now has 6 Comitia attached as Abeokuta Comitium was transferred to Lagos Regia since it is in that ecclesiastical province. The recently received Regia's Annual Report shows it has over 7,000 seniors and over 2,000 juniors. Nearly a quarter of the seniors are probationers. Regular works include visitation of homes, brothels, prisons, leprosarium and rehabilitation centres and marriage counselling.
Jos Regia: The legionaries here welcomed the Concilium visitors. Minutes are awaited.
Benin City Regia: An attached Curia recruited 118 members and a Comitium established a new Curia and formed 12 new praesidia. The Family Rosary was introduced to 22 homes and many were prepared for the Sacraments and 45 non-Christian were converted. Auchi Comitium had 231 legionaries on a project and they visited over 4,000 homes and as a result the Catholic Church at Okpella, which had not been functioning for 20 years was revived.
Malawi
Blantyre Regia:
An e-mail from the President explained that he was ill but, as he was a good deal better, he hoped to be able to make plans for the restructuring of the Legion Councils in 3 of the Dioceses and the training of their officers.
Liberia
Monrovia Curia:
An e-mail was received from the Curia Correspondent. A new junior praesidium established in Bomi Hills, outside Monrovia, is doing well. That mission had a visit from Irish Peacekeepers who are based in the country.
Sierra Leone
Freetown Curia:
In May all legionaries participated in the Eucharistic Congress. Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Joseph Ganda and there was a Blessed Sacrament Procession through the main street of Freetown.
Zambia
Lusaka Regia: Evangelising is undertaken by all praesidia/councils. It was reported that prison warders and prisoners and also a lady from Zimbabwe have undertaken instruction for Baptism. Door to door visitation of Christian and non-Christian homes is carried out and legionaries are well received. Many non-Christians have been recruited for Baptism. Visitation of Police cells is done and a praesidium in an open prison has been formed. The Rosary is promoted and the prayers for the 3 Legion Causes have been translated into various dialects.
Kasama Regia: A week long visitation project was carried out to a number of distant councils including Mpolokoso Comitium where they visited Mwange Refugee camp. There are approximately 23,000 people in the camp of whom 70 are Catholics and many Baptisms and marriage regularisations took place during the year. A Curia has been established and 3 senior praesidia have been set up within the camp and 1 outside. The visitors got a very warm welcome and managed to fulfil their programme with the help of interpreters and they passed on literature in French. The camp Chaplain Fr. Cypriano played a major role in all the preparations and provided transport to and from the camp. In Kasama itself they have commenced visiting a prison and the Regia president recently led an inter-denominational service there.
Tanzania
Dar-Es-Salaam Comitium: Works reported on included visiting sick people at home and in hospital, elderly people, those with disabilities and orphans and supervising junior praesidia. A Junior Curia with 5 junior and 2 youth praesidia reported. They have 164 active members and recruited 64 new members. They teach prayers to children and study the Handbook and Bible. A praesidium which visits homes and a hospital taught 29 children to pray.
Mtwara Comitium: Works reported include helping elderly people and praying with them, visiting the sick at home and also visiting small Christian Community meetings and speaking to youths about marriage.
Songea Comitium is active and is doing the normal apostolate.
South America
Brazil
Rio De Janeiro Senatus: Over 100 legionaries from all over Brazil took part in a Peregrinatio Pro Christo project in the Amazonian region of Porto Velho State. As a result almost 400 adults and 500 children were enrolled for Baptism and 16 senior and 32 junior members were recruited. The team leaders were received by the Archbishop. A Comitium carried out an Exploratio among evangelicals who agreed to recite the Rosary and whose pastors also showed interest.
Salvador Senatus: A meeting for Spiritual Directors had an attendance of 15 priests and 2 deacons, all appreciative of the work of the Legion in their parishes. The auxiliary Bishop addressed the meeting. The Legion continues to grow. In Penedo town 15 destitute women were trained to earn a living as dressmakers. A praesidium was established in police headquarters. Half of the members in 1 Comitium are juniors.
Belo Horizonte Senatus: Legionaries visiting favelas - districts of extreme poverty and violence - have to face the dangers of stray bullets. Children who attend catechism classes are insisting on their parents attending Mass, actively participating in the parish and reciting the Rosary. A former drug addict is now an active member and 10 former members returned to active ranks. Part of the prison apostolate involves accompanying prisoners to doctors and dentists. A praesidium visits expectant mothers emphasising the graces received through motherhood. Praesidia visiting apartment blocks contact janitors, security staff and cleaners. Many reports tell of Bible formation courses, reflection groups with families and Bible study groups.
Brasilia Regia: Legionaries during visits to homes recited the Rosary with appropriate Gospel readings, meditation, praying the psalms and singing hymns. 620 participated. An evangelical couple took part in Christmas prayer meetings. A Comitium recorded pre-Baptism courses given to 25 families. Another council evangelises through the basic Ecclesial Committees.
Sao Luis Regia: The recently elected president makes individual contact with praesidia officers who fail to attend meetings. Works of service include vocational courses so that the poor can be prepared for gainful employment. 15 correspondents help the Regia to administer the Legion in the large area of the States of Maranhao and Piaui.
Sao Paulo Senatus: The inauguration of the new Regia in the state of Santa Catarina was due on 3 December. A congress for young legionaries and a conference for presidents and vice-presidents were considered very worthwhile. The Ponta Grossa Regia recorded 37,000 visits to homes, 26,000 to sick in their homes and 31,000 hospital visits. Other works undertaken by councils include visits to prisons. Refugee shelters, street contact, work for drug addicts and HIV patients, catechism classes for children, youths, adults and literacy classes. A visit to a former prisoner resulted in a whole family returning to the Church.
Fortaleza Regia: The Senatus officers consulted the Archbishop to discuss the raising of the Regia to Senatus and the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the Legion in Fortaleza. The Jubilee celebrations started with a procession through the city and Mass in the Cathedral celebrated by the Archbishop.
Argentina
Buenos Aires Senatus: The Regia of La Plata held its annual retreat, focusing on praetorian membership, the Breviary and the Blessed Eucharist. The Cause of the Servant of God Alfie Lambe is on the agenda each month and there are always good reports and suggestions received.
Salta Senatus: The Comitium of Jujuy has 33 attached Curiae. A praesidium reported working with a group of 14 to 19 olds who were involved in drink and drug abuse. 28 of them have reformed and joined with the legionaries in a prayer group. Some priests in isolated areas have more than 25 communities to look after. The legionaries prepare the ground for the priest's visits.
Cordoba Senatus: A praesidium doing home visitation and street contact works with young drug addicts. They ask their contacts to pray for the young people.
Corrientes Regia: This council covers 8 Dioceses in North East Argentina. They have sent Concilium a list of their praesidia and councils and maps of their area. Reports mention many good works carried out including an initiative by young members who organise half- day retreats for young people.
Rosario Regia: Legionaries visit homes with a statue of Our Lady. They also visit the sick and prisoners. Catechism is taught to adults and children. Pregnant women and single mothers are encouraged to have their children baptised.
Extension Worker to South America
Bernardo De Nardo on his return to Guatemala set out with a Peregrinatio Pro Christo team to Belize. Legionaries from Mexico, Guatemala and Belize participated in the project. The Legion in Belize is functioning reasonably well but needs help and encouragement.
Bernardo will spend some days finishing his work in Guatemala and will give a report to both the Cardinal and the Papal Nuncio. He will spend Christmas with his family in Argentina before the next part of his mission in the New Year.

April 2006 Concilium Meeting
Due to the fact that Easter Sunday will fall on the 3rd Sunday in April 2006, (ordinarily the Sunday for the monthly meeting of the Concilium) please note that the meeting in April 2006 will take place on Sunday 23rd 2006 DV.
