Election of New President of the Concilium
An election was held at the June meeting of the Concilium to fill the vacancy for President of the Concilium which arose on the completion of her second term in office of Sile Ni Chochláin. Three candidates were proposed and seconded for the office and after 3 ballots were carried out in accordance with the Legion's Constitution, Tommy McCabe was declared elected as President for a term of 3 years. He paid a warm tribute to Sile Ni Chocháin for her excellent service to the Concilium during her two terms in office.

Korea
Seoul Senatus: A weekend training session for presidents of youth praesidia had an attendance of 159. The Senatus decided to translate the Allocutio from the Concilium each month into Korean, and include it in their monthly bulletin. A students' praesidium in the Catholic University, of 13 members, including 2 Praetorians, 54 Auxiliaries and 8 Adjutorians, reported 7 returns to the Sacraments. Another students' praesidium of 12 members and 11 Auxiliaries in Seo-kang University, Seoul, encourages people to go to Confession frequently. They also help with catechism classes. A Comitium in Seoul with 13 Curiae and 150 praesidia reported that 674 people invited into the Church were baptised. They were also instrumental in 574 lapsed Catholics returning to the Sacraments.
Gwangju Senatus - Both the Jeonju and Juju Regiae reported an increase in membership. Pusan and Masan Regiae presented detailed reports and are engaged in bringing people into the Church, helping catechumens, visiting facilities for the handicapped as well as assisting in all parish activities.
Daegu Senatus - One Comitium reported that between catechumens recruited and conversions over 1,000 people were helped to learn more about the Church or to come into the Church. Andong Regia has a new junior Curia with 11 praesidia, bringing the number of junior praesidia to 346. The Regia increased its active membership by 195 and its Auxiliaries by 295 during the year.
Malaysia
Singapore Senatus: An Auxiliary Rally had 100 persons present. The Tertiary Curia in third level colleges among its activities reports a Novena organised prior to examinations, a Legion tea and welcome session and visitation of the halls of residence. Recruitment is done at the start of the academic year and lunchtime Rosaries take place on campus, Patrician meetings are arranged as well as a workshop for new and existing members.
Kuala Lumpur Senatus: The only areas affected by the tsumani were Kedah and Penang. Works reported on included helping migrant workers, counselling single parents, teaching catechism and RCIA programmes. A non-Catholic suffering with cancer was prayed with and received Baptism before he died. Help was given to St. Vincent de Paul members to organise diagnostic tests for school children.
Indonesia
Malang Senatus: Visitation of Councils, extension work, Exploratio Dominicalis projects and praying the Rosary with youths were mentioned in reports. Senatus and a Comitium are holding 'guidance for youth' weekends.
Jakarta Senatus: Two new praesidia were established. Following a Peregrinatio Pro Christo project a weak Curia has been revived with 12 praesidia (4 senior and 8 junior). Another Curia has 6 senior and 12 junior praesidia. The need for supervision of juniors was discussed at the Senatus meeting.
Japan
Osaka Senatus: Works mentioned in reports included visiting the sick, ecumenical prayer meetings and visiting with Holy Communion. Forty people attended a weekly Rosary in Kyoto. Family members of a deceased lady welcomed the legionaries because of the kindness they showed to her mother. The Korean Curia with 94 members organised an outdoor Mass in conjunction with their Reunion. Nagasaki Regia discussed the Legion rules and system with one of its Curia and emphasised the value the Act of Consecration to Our Lady.
China
Hong Kong Comitium: Sixteen praesidia in 1 Curia have 203 members, 442 Auxiliaries, 15 Praetorians and 13 Adjutorians. Crowd contact, catechism classes, visitation to all age groups, gatherings for non-Catholics and prison visitation were listed as works done.
Taiwan Senatus: The focus of this report is Evangelisation. They report that the works of the Senatus can be broken into 5 categories - Sacramental support and helping the priest with his daily duties, including the organising of retreats and pilgrimages; teaching Catholic doctrine, including bible sharing and teaching in prisons; leading prayers particularly the Rosary, especially with bereaved families; visitation of homes and hospitals; traditional works of charity - acting as volunteers in hospitals and serving the aged. Legionaries appear to be the backbone of the Church in Taiwan; their witness of Christ being an example of Christian living and together with their enthusiasm seem to draw others to the faith and into the Legion.
Visit to Chennai Senatus, India
Noel Lynch and Colm Mannion from Dublin who visited Chennai Senatus on behalf of the Concilium gave brief reports on the 3 weeks they spent in Chennai. They had various discussions with the Senatus officers and they visited praesidia and Councils attached to the Senatus. They reported that the Legion is strong in the area and that great credit is due to legionaries who with great sacrifice and dedication give a devoted service to Our Lady. Detailed reports on the visit were given to the Concilium officers.
Africa
Burundi
Gitega Senatus: Among the activities reported were the recruitment of catechumens, the organisation of prayers for peace, promotion of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharistic Adoration. Manual help is given to the poor and people are encouraged to play their part in the basic ecclesial communities. A praesidium of civil servants visits the sick, reconciles divided families and looks after junior praesidia in secondary schools.
Democratic Republic of Congo: No recent news has been received from the 3 Senatus of Kananga, Bukavu and Kinshasa. For the first time in almost a year there was some news from Butembo Senatus. The attendance of 56 at the April meeting consisted of the Spiritual Director, 3 Senatus officers and 50 officers of attached praesidia and Councils. One praesidium with 14 members reported the Baptism of 7 children, regularisation of 2 marriages and visitation of invalids. Six Comitia with 43 Curiae have 5,451 active members. Works include ensuring the Baptism of children and their religious instruction, promotion of Eucharistic Adoration and reception of the Sacraments, regularisation of marriages and counselling of alcoholics.
Central African Republic: The Archbishop of Bangui appointed a Diocesan Spiritual Director in the person of Fr. Carlos Nguema. As a result the Regia now has the services of Abbé Abel Baroua at national level and Fr. Carlos Nguema at Diocesan level. Before the election of the new Regia president Father Carlos advised that the new president must be humble, orderly, honest and exemplary and as the Legion work is directed towards Christian marriage, the candidates must have correct marital status.
Rwanda
Kigali Senatus: Reports indicate that excellent work is done in course of home, hospital, prison and orphanage visitation. Works include recruiting of catechumens, teaching of catechism, preparing adults and children for the Sacraments and bringing many lapsed back to the Church. Numerous sick, handicapped, elderly and impoverished people are visited on a regular basis to provide spiritual help and also to undertake manual work as required. As illiteracy is a problem in many areas one of the aims is to recruit more literate members old and young. Councils are worried by the increase in the number of sects in the country who are now trying to get legionaries to join their ranks. Retreats, a Congress and sessions of formation have been organised as a follow up to the Jubilee celebrations.
Reunion Island: Works reported included home and hospital visitation, attendance at wakes, teaching catechism, public Rosaries, bringing Holy Communion to the sick and leading people in Stations of the Cross. Conversions and returns to religious practice were reported after years of visitation and encouragement. The husband of a legionary returned to the Church after 25 years absence
Mauritius
Comitium of Port Louis: Works reported include visitation of families of all denominations, hospital visitation, teaching catechism to children and preparing them for Sacraments. There is a Junior Curia attached to the Comitium described as "strong with members visiting a poor area".
North America
United States
Philadelphia Senatus: A fact finding trip to West Pennsylvania was made to Pittsburgh, Altoona and Price Galitzen County with a view to realignment. Delaware County Johnstown Curia had an Evangelisation Day in 2 parishes. The Greensburg Diocesan paper highlighted the effect of the evangelisation weekend organised by Camden Comitium.
Los Angeles Senatus: Six praesidia presented their annual reports. They have 57 active including 39 Praetorian, 721 Auxiliary including 79 Adjutorian members. Apostolate to the crowd, book barrow and home visitation are the works done. One praesidium did 7 Exploratio Dominicalis projects during the past year.
St. Louis Senatus: Three senior and 2 junior praesidia have been set up. Another praesidium recruited 13 members. As a result of helping a family whose mother was dying and helping with her funeral arrangements, the husband and 4 members of the family took instruction in the Church and were received into the Church on Easter Sunday.
Cincinnati Senatus: Recruiting drives in Indianapolis and Lafayette have taken place and so far one new praesidium was set up. On prison visitation about 100 prisoners are contacted and spiritual talks are given. Detroit Regia reported 5 new praesidia.
Boston Senatus: Extensions efforts resulted in 2 new praesidia, 3 in prisons and a prisoner on his release joined the Legion. Their first Patrician meeting was held. Providence Comitium report many returns to the Sacraments including 2 sick people who died shortly afterwards.
San Francisco Senatus: Three reports from praesidia were presented to the Senatus. They have 38 active including 10 Praetorian, 155 Auxiliary and 11 Adjutorian members. Nursing Home visitation and book barrow work is done. Seattle Comitium covers 3 Dioceses with a total of 11 Curiae, 775 active and 3,600 Auxiliary members. Peregrinatio was organised to Des Moines, Iowa. North Utah Curia has 5 praesidia. Ten legionaries from the Senatus took part in an extension drive to Reno in Nevada. 160 people gave their names and are being followed up. In the course of book barrow work a man was taught to say the Rosary.
Chicago Senatus: Cardinal George celebrated Mass to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Venerable Edel Quinn. A new praesidium was started in a hospital in the Peoria Curia where the Chaplain is a former legionary. Gate of Heaven Korean Curia invited 69 people to join the Legion and gained 19 active and 7 Auxiliary members. They had 12 converts last year. Guadalupe Curia, East Chicago reported making 300 calls as part of an evangelisation programme.
New York Senatus: The Senatus is promoting the Year of the Eucharist. Two Comitia and 2 praesidia reported. The Comitia indicate that new praesidia, including juniors are being set up. A special project was carried out whereby 900 apartments were visited over 2 days and juniors visited with seniors. Reports mention 280 Baptisms, 36 Catholic marriages and 25 conversions to the faith. In all Legion work great emphasis is placed on the spiritual value of the Sacraments.
Houston Regia: The 10th anniversary of the Regia was celebrated and farewell was paid to Bob and Gloria Payesko after 17 years of extension in Texas and Louisiana. New praesidia were started in 3 areas. El Paso Curia had 18 converts, 62 marriages blessed and 12 returns to the Sacraments. Gallup Comitium are starting new praesidia for Navaho people.
Arlington Regia: Richmond Curia reports 4 new praesidia over the last 6 months. The Rappahannock Curia mentions that more than half of its members belong to the junior ranks. His Excellency Bishop Loverde concelebrated Mass at the Acies and praised the work of the Legion in his Diocese. Extension continues in West Virginia with 2 more praesidia established.
West Indies
Puerto Rico Senatus: Work is done in hospitals and prisons. A young pregnant mother who had to spend 6 months in bed was visited regularly by legionaries. As a result her family started to attend Mass.
Dominican Republic
Regia of Santiago de los Caballeros: In the Comitium Nuestra Sonora de la Altagracia with 9 affiliated Curiae, 18 senior and 9 junior praesidia have 1,658 active and 1,529 Auxiliary members. 25 active members are Praetorians and 5 Auxiliaries are Adjutorians. Young people and adults were Baptised, received First Holy Communion, were Confirmed and had marriages regularised. All reports mention prison, home and hospital visitation.
Trinidad Regia: Works include visiting homes and institutions. On bereavement visitation legionaries conduct prayers and help in anyway possible. As a result of street contact and home visitation, there were returns to Mass and the Sacraments and babies were Baptised.
Bahamas Curia: The reporting praesidium has 22 members and they visit the elderly and bring them Holy Communion.
Canada
Montreal Senatus (French): The Senatus has agreed to the attachment of the Montreal English speaking Curia. This brings to 10 the number of Curiae attached to the Council. Works done in the Senatus include the preparation of children for the Sacraments and follow up work with their parents and prison visitation.
Toronto Regia: A junior praesidium of 7 members say they are helped to have a greater understanding of the Handbook and the spirit of the Legion. Several priests have been approached with a view to starting the Legion. In North Toronto Curia 2 new praesidia were started. In Newfoundland Curia there are 13 praesidia with 110 members including 23 Praetorians and 634 Auxiliary members.
Vancouver Comitium: Extension is on going. There are 16 praesidia and 10 Curiae attached to the Council. Twelve homes were consecrated to the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart of Mary. A Korean Curia report the Baptism of 148 people.
Ottawa Senatus: The Annual Audit is being carried out. Nursing Home visitation seems to be the work of most of the praesidia.
Edmonton Comitium: Visitation of Councils is undertaken. Calgary Curia has 1 Chinese and 3 Korean praesidia.
South America
Bolivia
La Paz Senatus: Homes are visited and while some non-Catholic families do not receive the statue they accept the legionaries' visit. Many families want their children to be prepared for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. This often leads to the return of the family to the Catholic Faith. Contact with the poorest of the poor is ongoing and Shoe Shine boys and street children are evangelised on a weekly basis.
Ecuador
Quito Senatus: Three Comitia, 5 senior and 2 junior praesidia reported. Junior legionaries prepare children for First Holy Communion. Legionaries visit the jails and prepare inmates for the Sacraments. Bernardo De Nardo (extension worker) visited Quito recently. He confirmed that they are active in extension.
Cuenca Regia: Bernardo De Nardo was present at the February meeting when there was unanimous agreement by the Council to being affiliated to the Senatus of Quito. 700 legionaries were at the Golden Jubilee celebrations including an Indian Curia from Saraguro. The Archbishop of Cuenca was the chief celebrant of the Jubilee Mass. A letter was received for the occasion from the Jail praesidium in Loja.
Paraguay
Asuncion Senatus: There are 12 Seminarians in a praesidium in Caacupe. They report the marriage of an 80 year old couple. Catechesis in the sailors' barracks resulted in 2 Baptisms, 10 First Holy Communions and 20 Confirmations.
Venezuela
Caracas Senatus: They held a Columban drive, do jail visitation, teach children catechism as well as reading and writing. A new praesidium of 18 members was set up following a Peregrinatio Pro Christo project. The Curia in Bolivar City organised an "illuminated Rosary" and a junior Curia was set up in Barquisimeto.
Peru
Lima Senatus: 2 praesidia and 2 Curiae were set up in Huarez, which has 45 praesidia and 35 Patrician groups. All Curiae and praesidia did Exploratio projects. A Curia reported giving talks on Christian morals in schools at the request of the Bishop. Visitation is done of a women's jail and the maximum security jail.
Colombia
Bogota Senatus: During 2004 and 2005 the 4 Regiae affiliated to the Senatus celebrated their 50th anniversary. The Archbishop of Tunja presided at the Jubilee Mass in the Tunja Cathedral on 13 May.
Chile
Santiago Senatus: Reports mention that good results are obtained from door to door visitation. La Serena Regia had a special Mass for its 45th anniversary. Santiago Senatus now has 2 Regiae attached - La Serena and Temuco. La Serena Regia does very good prison work. Extension efforts continue to be made but some areas are difficult because of their isolation. San Bernardo Comitium is working on extension in 3 areas.

Bernardo De Nardo Extension Worker in Mexico
Bernardo has been visiting the Senatus of Mexico city and the Regia of Merida in the south of the country. There are many Councils attached to both the Senatus and the Regia and the number is as high as 40 in some cases. Bernardo has been checking out the possibility of setting up new Regiae. Punctuality and preparation by officers for meetings are some of the points he has been emphasising in his meetings with legionaries. . Members are doing solid Legion work particularly in home visitation and consequently are dealing positively with numerous problems.

The Servant of God, Frank Duff
Commemoration Ceremony, Glasnevin, Dublin
The Annual Commemoration Ceremony for the Servant of God Frank Duff was held in Glasnevin Cemetery on Sunday 12 June 2005. There was an attendance of approximately 450. An inspiring address on Frank Duff and the Eucharist was given by Rev. Father Michael Kennedy. Sharing the platform were Rev. Gerald Canon Healy, Fr. Eamon McCarthy and Fr. Liam O'Cuiv. The proceedings concluded with a procession to the graveside during which the Rosary was recited and hymns were sung.

Fourth Annual Conference for Youth
This weekend Conference was held on 11/12 June 2005 in All Hallows College, Dublin. About 130 young legionaries and other young people took part. During the weekend talks were given on various aspects of the Faith. These talks were given by Fr. Bede McGregor, O.P. Spiritual Director to the Concilium, Fr. John Harris, O.P., Fr. Paul Churchill, Sr. Miriam Duggan who is working to combat AIDS in Uganda and Sr. Consilio who spoke about addictions. There was Eucharist adoration during the weekend and 5 priests heard Confessions. Three of the participants gave testimonies regarding the influence of the Legion in their lives. Thanks were expressed to Liam Hayden, Assistant Secretary of the Concilium who organised the Conference.
