Vienna Senatus: 30 members of Comitium Hollabrunn undertook the True Devotion to Mary consecration. Comitium St. Poelten has 12 childrens' Nazareth groups. Curia South East Vienna invited people at 2 shopping centres to an afternoon retreat on Ash Wednesday. Eighty-five attended a retreat organised by Graz Comitium and 100 attended a retreat for lapsed Catholics run by Comitium Wienerwald. Comitium Burgenland started a Youth praesidium and the Student praesidium in Vienna started a praesidium in Holy Cross Seminary.
Cech Republic
Prague Curia, which has been raised to the status of Comitium, now has a new Curia at Klattan.
Croatia
Zagreb Comitium has 5 Curiae including a new one at Split and 19 directly attached praesidia.
Moldova
Chisinau Curia governs 6 praesidia and has 3 more in formation.
Romania
Bucharest Curia has 12 praesidia and is doing extension.
Slovenia:Thirty attended a retreat organised by Ljubljana Curia.
Hungary
Budapest Regia: Interim reports from praesidia and Curia Sulysap reported a varied apostolate. They give special attention to the "following generation" - young children, through Nazareth groups and involvement in works such as bringing the statue of Our Lady to families. Comitium Nagybatony reported the start of 3 new praesidia.
Latvia
Riga Comitium: Among the works of a praesidium reporting to the Comitium is the visitation of the local hospital and retirement home. Legionaries inform the priest of the very ill and dying. They promote the Miraculous Medal among young people when visiting the Summer Camps. They have helped a number of people to regularise their marriages.
Lithuania
Kaunas Comitium: A praesidium of 7 active members with 247 auxiliaries carry out regular visitation of families who have gone over to the Jehovahs Witnesses and the Word of Faith sect. In prison the legionaries recite the Rosary with the prisoners many of whom have gone to Confession. On home visitation a couple met aged 80 and 72, cohabiting for many years agreed to receive the Sacraments and were married in Church.
Poland
Lublin Regia: Two new Comitia have been established. A Eucharistic Congress was held for all praesidia in the Regia. An Apostolate to sanctify the Sabbath was undertaken outside Supermarkets on Sundays.
Warsaw Comitium: Praga Curia which has grown to 23 praesidia held its third Congress on the Theme 'The Eucharist'. 130 Bishops received an information pack on the Legion.
Cyprus: The two praesidia are engaged in home visitation, promotion of the Rosary and visitation of the psychiatric and cancer wards of a hospital.
Gibraltar: Praesidia attached to Assumpta Curia organise Rosary groups, visit the prison and hospital and promote the family Rosary through pilgrim statue visitation; there are 6 pilgrim statues in circulation in various estates.
Italy
Milan Regia: Praetorian and Adjutorian membership is promoted, one praesidium has 50 Adjutorians and another has 30. Retreats and a pilgrimage for the lapsed featured in reports. Legionaries visiting a newly established Nursing Home were instrumental in having religious emblems put in residents' rooms and getting an oratory provided for them.
Padua Comitium carry out an apostolate to French speaking Africans. Two new praesidia were started, one in a city parish, the other is composed of Nigerians. A former legionary was ordained to the priesthood. Prayers for the Causes of Beatification, anniversary Masses etc. feature prominently in all reports.
Senatus or Rome: Much sorrow was expressed at the death of the Holy Father Pope John Paul 11 and a beautiful homage was paid to him by Rev. Sr. Antonella at the Acies. A new praesidium in the Central Curia and a new Curia at Segni were reported.
Greece
Athens Curia: Minutes have been received recently and are being dealt with. The Golden Jubilee of the start of the Legion in the country will be celebrated this year.
Malta
Gozo Comitium: The Bishop attended the annual reunion and Acies at which he gave the address. Twenty four priests and the Bishop attended a meeting for Spiritual Directors. Following a recruiting drive by a junior Curia, a new praesidium was set up. Twenty legionaries carried out an apostolate to tourists on Good Friday and Holy Saturday with many good contacts. Four young legionaries are in charge of a radio religious programme.
Albania (under the caretakership of Malta Regia)
During their visit to Albania in October 2 Maltese legionaries attended Curia and officers' meetings. In Tirana a praesidium of 15 members is working well. Among the works of Elbasan praesidium is recitation of a public Rosary during May, which attracts large numbers of Muslims. Visits were also made to Kosovo, Montenegro and Mumarras. In Kosovo the 2 legionaries with the secretary of Shkoder Curia received a warm welcome from the Bishop who promised to discuss the Legion with his clergy.
Spain
Bilbao Senatus: The Curia in San Sabastian has closed and the Curia of Pamplona with only 2 praesidia is to be visited by the Senatus. However, Covadonga Curia set up a praesidium of 15 and has hopes of a new junior praesidium. Burgos Comitium with 4 Curiae and 106 members engages in street contact, jail visitation, and organised 4 retreats and have 4 prayer groups.
Barcelona Senatus has 3 Curiae with 8, 9 and 11 praesidia. Members visit schools and colleges to promote the Legion, do street contact and teach catechism and cookery in the parishes.
Portugal
Lisbon Senatus: A day of evangelisation in a city centre parish had 120 legionaries visiting homes, contacting people in the streets, at railway and metro stations and in the commercial area and city squares. Three thousand of many religious and sects were spoken to. Some contacts gave their names for follow up and 7 expressed interest in the Legion. About 800 young people were met, 39 of whom professed to be agnostics. Copies of St. Mark's Gospel were distributed.
Mexico
Mexico City Senatus: This report covers the period September to December 2004. On home-to-home visitation legionaries encourage parents to be watchful of their children so that they do not get involved with drugs or alcoholism. They encourage participation in parish groups and provide timetables and details of such groups. They organise retreats for parents and godparents of First Holy Communicants. One contact returned to Confession after 50 years. The daughter of a Jehovah's Witness family has returned to practice of the Catholic faith. Large numbers received the Sacraments. There are 24 praesidia and 38 Curiae attached to the Comitium of Acapulco.
Guadalajara Senatus: Three Comitia, 1 Curia and 1 praesidium reported recently. The attached Comitium of Aguascalientes presented a very good report. There are 19 praesidia including 9 junior ones attached. A retreat on the Eucharist was very well attended.
Merida Regia: Two Comitia, 2 Curiae and 3 praesidia reported. Street contact was mentioned on one report. A Comitium reported 5000 homes visited with very positive results (this figure includes 259 homes of families who had changed over to one or other of the sects). Reports indicate that the legionaries promote the Miraculous Medal devotion. 20 adults were baptised.
Monterrey Regia: Bernardo De Nardo has been to visit this Council. He found the Legion working well. He was very impressed with a visit to a senior Curia with a junior Curia attached. Both Curiae are very actively extending the Legion. A junior Curia in Saltillo has 18 praesidia attached. A member of a prison praesidium set up a new praesidium in another jail when she was transferred there.
Hermosillo Regia: Three Curiae including a junior Curia and 3 praesidia reported. A Curia, which was set up in 2002, has doubled its praesidia from 9 to 18. Twelve couples were prepared for the Sacrament of Marriage and 2000 children were prepared for First Holy Communion. The Year of the Eucharist is promoted by all praesidia and Councils.
Bernardo De Nardo Extension Worker
Bernard De Nardo has been working in Mexico on behalf of the Concilium in Mexico City Senatus, Guadalajara Senatus and Monterrey Regia. Two points in particular, which he is emphasising, are: solid Legion work assigned by the president of the praesidium and working in pairs. There is a great need to do solid home visitation and meet the hundreds of families who have little or no contact with the Church and others who have been influenced by different sects. The junior movement is showing great potential and the young legionaries are very open to new ideas and suggestions. There are a number of junior praesidia in each Council and a few junior Curiae. Bro. Bernardo thanks the Concilium for the privilege of doing this work.
Central America
Guatemala
Guatemala City Comitium: Extension resulted in 1 senior and 1 junior praesidium being set up and 2 others in formation. Attached Curiae are being visited. One Curia reporting visits to homes, hospitals and jails.
Comitium of Camotan: Four praesidia, 5 senior Curiae and 2 junior Curiae reported. Home visitation is done, encouraging people to think of conversion, children are prepared for First Holy Communion and are invited to assist at the Celebration of the Word. Visitation of prisoners was undertaken; 7 Exploratio Dominicalis projects were carried out, 9 people showed their interest in joining the Legion. A Peregrinatio Pro Christo project was also mentioned. Extension resulted in 5 new senior praesidia and 4 junior praesidia.
Comitium of Jalapa: The November minutes mentioned Bro. Bernardo's visit and his congratulations on their commitment to accepting the Handbook. Camotan legionaries visited them and encouraged them to get to know and follow the Legion system.
Honduras
Senatus of Tegucigalpa: Councils outside the capital are working well.
El Salvador
Senatus of San Salvador: Praesidium Rosa Escogida reports a lady converted from the Evangelicals. Curia Torre de Marfil instructed 80 prisoners, helped a sick woman for 4 months before her death, and had one marriage validated after 45 years. The junior Curia of 7 praesidia in Soyapanga had 90% at the Acies. The Regia of Santa Ana gave an excellent report. It has 6 Comitia, 8 Curiae and 90 praesidia. They set up 3 new Curiae, 2 junior praesidia, teach children catechism to 234 prisoners and had 292 Celebrations of the Word.
Nicaragua
Regia of Managua: The apostolate includes home-to-home visitation and catechism for all Sacraments. They visit the prison to pray with the prisoners. They direct junior praesidia and have contact with glue inhaling children. Eight adults received Confirmation and 145 children First Holy Communion. Leon Curia is doing extension in three different areas and Granada Curia is also trying to extend.
Costa Rica
Senatus of San Jose: The Senatus has a junior Curia of 5 praesidia who look after invalid children, visit the sick in their homes and help catechists.
Belize
Curia of Belize: Two praesidia reported, one visits a children's hospital and do home visitation. The other is engaged mainly in visiting the elderly.
Africa
Benin
Cotonou Regia: There is a considerable improvement in overall administration and apostolic work in this Regia. Reports from praesidia and Councils are adequate giving good information on apostolic work, visitations and elections. The revived junior Curia has 5 praesidia all doing good work. Two new correspondents (former Regia officers) have been appointed for Councils in Gabon, now in care of the Regia. Very detailed information was given on a 12 day visitation undertaken by 4 legionaries who travelled by car and visited northern Benin where they had successful meetings with Council officers and Spiritual Directors. In Niger they were graciously received by the Bishop of Niamey, where there is only 1 Curia.
Congo
Brazzaville Regia: In the course of home, hospital and prison visitation contacts include Catholics, Protestants, Muslims, Animists and members of sects. Praesidia teach catechism to prepare contacts for Baptism, First Holy Communion and Catholic Marriage. On-going recruiting efforts have resulted in new praesidia and new Curiae. Translation of the Handbook into the Lari language is under consideration. A day of recollection for all Councils has been organised on the theme "The Eucharist is the very source and constant inspiration of Catholic Action".
Cameroon: The number of legionaries increased during 2004. A Comitium in Edea and Kom are doing well. Reports include 7005 catechism classes, 2602 Baptisms, 1288 returns to the Sacraments and the regularisation of 200 marriages.
GuineaThe governing Council at Conakry has 17 praesidia in various parts of the country. Suggestions as to how Curiae could be established to secure easier and more effective government have been put to the Council.
Guinea Equatorial
Malabo Comitium: Main works reported are home and hospital visitation. Sects are very active on the island. All attached praesidia and Curiae are visited regularly including Bata Curia on the mainland.
Ivory Coast
Abidjan Regia: Communications with this Council have been beset with difficulties in recent months.
Togo
Lomé Regia: Reports from 4 attached praesidia with a total of 84 active members and 68 auxiliaries dealt with the visitation of homes, hospitals and a university campus. Contact with Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and various sects resulted in the recruitment of 154 catechumens, 34 Baptisms, 20 First Holy Communion, 11 Confirmations and many returns to Mass and Sacraments. The junior Curia has 15 praesidia whose members recite the Rosary with the sick and elderly, teach catechism to children, do crowd contact, act as stewards at children's Masses and distribute Miraculous Medals. Similar reports come from other affiliated Councils where some new praesidia have been set up. All Councils are encouraged to put greater effort into recruiting of auxiliary and Praetorian members. Congresses and courses of formation have been organised and a one day retreat was organised at parish level in all Councils during Lent. Masses, Novenas of Prayer and discussions were organised to promote the Causes of the Venerable Edel Quinn and the Servants of God, Frank Duff and Alfie Lambe.
Asia
Myanmar (Burma) The Senatus reported that its evangelising efforts included the visitation of homes for the purpose of encouraging those not attending Mass to return to the Church. Enthronements of the Sacred Heart in homes are arranged, catechism is taught and many persons are prepared for marriage. Six adults and 14 children were prepared for Baptism. Five Curiae held processions with the statue of Our Lady.
Thailand
Bangkok Senatus: (this country is 99% Buddhist) Surathani Curia despite many obstacles tried to establish the Legion in remote areas. Their efforts resulted in 12 Baptisms. Another Curia visits prisoners and is trying to establish the Legion within the prison. A praesidium of 17 members helped 4 people to study the catechism and 2 received the Sacrament of Baptism. This praesidium also contacts young people and 2 are now attending Church regularly.
Sri LankaThe Senatus reports that despite the Tsumani, the Legion kept up its efforts to extend. Regrettably Galle Curia was wiped out by the disaster. The legionaries show great courage in dangerous circumstances. In one area a drug baron was shot, 6 legionaries attended his funeral and pleaded with the priest to attend. Every report shows people being brought into the Church, the Baptism of adults and babies, of 154 baptised 121 were adults and the sects are very active in this country.
Vietnam: The Senatus has translated and printed 'The True Devotion to Mary' and 'The Secret of the Rosary' by St. Louis M. de Montfort. Four Curiae reported the Baptism of several adults and children and 1 Curia works mainly among a community of lepers.
India
Calcutta Comitium has made contact with the Legion in Bangladesh on behalf of the Concilium and plans to visit there.
Mumbai Regia: A training session on home visitation had 160 present. Legionaries were commended by the community for arranging and attending the funeral of an AIDS patient. Catholic papers are distributed to clinics and dispensaries and homes in the "red light" areas are visited. Projects such as Rosary campaigns are organised. Extension is proceeding.
Pondicherry Senatus: One year since its inauguration the Senatus appears to be doing a good job in supervising, visiting and raising standards of the praesidia and Councils in its care. Participation at meetings is good. Extension is steady. Exploratio Dominicalis projects are undertaken by praesidia to villages where prayer and other services are conducted. Mini Peregrintio Pro Christo projects take place to areas at some distance - a typical pattern would be 166 Catholic v 172 Hindu homes visited.
Chennai Senatus: Fairly typical of reports presented is that of an attached Curia with 27 senior and 10 junior praesidia doing home and hospital visitation. Catechism is taught, homes are enthroned to the Sacred Heart and family members are reconciled. Muslims and Hindus are also visited. Sixty on average attend the prayer services conducted in parishes without a priest.
Visitors from San Francisco Senatus
Raymond Frost, President and David Marten, Vice-president of San Francisco Senatus were welcomed to the meeting. The Senatus is a year in operation and is very well organised. It governs the Legion in several States on the West Coast of Northern America and has 8 Comitia and 6 Curiae attached.
A rosary rally now in its 11th year was held along 2 streets in San Francisco with 300 legionaries taking part. The junior members distributed rosary beads during the rally

Sile Ni Chochláin, president of the Concilium thanked the two officers for the ready response received from their Council when the proposal to raise it to Senatus level was put to them. She said the Senatus had proved its worth and wished the officers every grace and blessing.
