Cause of the Servant of God, Frank God
Rev. Fr. Eamonn McCarthy, Research Assistant to Rev. Fr. Bede McGregor, O.P., Vice-Postulator of the Cause of Frank Duff related to the Concilium the details of a conversion to the Catholic Church of an American Jewish lady, whom Frank Duff met a few times on one of his cycling trips in Ireland. The details of the conversion are recorded in Frank Duff's letters which are being examined in connection with the Cause for his Beatification. Correspondence relating to the case stretched over twelve years and it was an American legionary who ultimately sent the good news to Frank Duff about the lady's reception into the Church. Frank Duff admitted in subsequent correspondence that he shed tears on receiving this gratifying news. Fr. McCarthy commented that it was a wonderful grace for Frank Duff to be used as an instrument of providence in bringing a soul nearer to God.
Death of Rev. Fr. Joseph Moran, O.P., former
Spiritual Director of the Concilium
It is with great regret that we record the unexpected death on 30 August 2004 of Rev. Fr. Joseph Moran, O.P., former Spiritual Director of the Concilium. The Rosary and Legion prayers were recited many times while Fr. Moran's remains were laid out in St. Catherine's Chapel attached to St. Saviour's Church, Dominick Street and there was a very big attendance at the concelebrated funeral Mass on 1 September 2004 in St. Saviour's Church. The chief celebrant and Homilist was Rev. Fr. Bede McGregor, O.P., Spiritual Director of the Concilium. The Rosary and Legion prayers were again recited at Fr. Moran's graveside in Glasnevin Cemetery.
Sile Ni Chochláin, president of the Concilium paid the following tribute to the late Fr. Moran:
"Since our last meeting Fr. Joseph Moran passed to his eternal reward - quietly and unobtrusively, a characteristic of his. He had been present here at the last two Concilium meetings and was in good spirits. The Concilium is indebted to Fr. Moran for the great service he gave to the Concilium as Spiritual Director for nearly 20 years. His Allocutios were often commented on in distant lands through the Bulletin. He regularly attended the Morning Star Hostel for Confessions and other functions. He also was Spiritual Director of the Spanish speaking praesidium and did duty for countless people contacted through that praesidium.
We have lost a dedicated legionary in Fr. Moran who will hopefully continue to help us but in a different way".
May his dedicated and generous soul rest in perpetual peace.
