Indonesia
Malang Senatus:The Senatus is preparing to celebrate its 40th anniversary in October. A Comitium in Bejawa is growing, their apostolate is greatly encouraged by the priest and spiritual guidance is given for extension. Setting up of Junior praesidia is encouraged. A praesidium in Lawang visits a mental hospital.
Jakarta Senatus: Queen of Martyrs CuriaTomang working in 3 parishes in West Jakarta has fifteen senior and three junior praesidia, 258 active and 529 auxiliaries, 27 Praetorians and 19 Adjutorians. Illiterate auxiliaries are helped to use cassettes recording tessera prayers. Catechism is taught in Mandarin to those without the Bahasa language. Mary Immaculate Curia established in May 2000 has grown from 5 to 10 praesidia and now has 141 active and 250 auxiliary members. A new Curia is being established in Pontianak. Audits and visitation of Councils are being carried out. Twenty four legionaries and the Spiritual Director of Senatus visited a parish in Lampung, they stayed in the homes of parishioners and carried out visitation and held a seminar.
Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur Regia:The Regia?s 50th anniversary took place in April 2004. One Curia formed a new praesidium and a praesidium in another Curia has split. Works: Homes and hospitals are visited, where many Catholics and non-Catholics are contacted. Legionaries teach catechism to adults and children, they participate in numerous parish ministries. Some legionaries in the Regia are members of prison ministries in the Diocese.
Singapore Senatus:Recorded in reports is the progression of juniors to young adult praesidia. The junior Curia reported an attendance of 220 at their Acies and 200 at the Curia reunion. Mandarin West Curia reported a 90% attendance of its members at their retreat, the same Curia organised a rosary crusade with an attendance of 1000. In praesidia reports mention is made of contact with non-Christians who were brought to a Church to experience the Eucharistic celebration. In a praesidium report from Brunei mention is made of contact in department stores, offices work places, streets and other places.
Japan
Osaka Senatus:Five priests attended the January meeting, which was followed by the Annual Reunion. A praesidium with six members visits hospitals and brings Holy Communion to the sick and helps in various parish activities. A nurse who attended a former legionary in hospital was so impressed with her demeanour she became curious about her religion and has started to study Christianity now. A legionary in this Curia has joined the Franciscans. Tokyo Regia has a new praesidium in Ueno parish. Their Korean Curia has eight praesidia. Nagasaki Regia carries out regular visitation of attached praesidia and Councils.
Korea
Seoul Senatus:Over seventy junior legionaries attended a two-day Retreat in Seoul. The Senatus Spiritual Director said he was inspired by their serious and prayerful participation. He also attended an outdoor function for 560 members of two junior Curiae organised by the Senatus. Father compared the legionary apostolic work to 3D occupations. The Legion undertakes the ?difficult, dirty and dangerous? jobs. The Senatus President mentions that Dioceses are anxious to design special programmes to overcome some obstacles and difficulties arising from social changes. He said that the Senatus and Spiritual Director are anxious to come up with some plans and programmes to cope with the social environment. It was in this context that the Retreat and function for the juniors were organised. A University praesidium in Seoul presented its first report. It has nine active and eleven auxiliary members. Twenty five catechumes were recruited and five of these were baptised.
Gwangju Senatus:Legionaries are very active in recruiting catechumens. One Curia reported that 218 people had been brought into the Church. A Comitium reported 318 returns to the Church. In his Allocutio at the June meeting, the Spiritual Director said that parishes are facing difficulties due to changes in social practices and they are inclined to change over to small community activation. At the July meeting the Spiritual Director said a meeting had been held on 8th July to consider the setting up of committees.
Daegu Senatus:The raising of this Council to Senatus was marked in a special way on 23rd May when the Most Reverend Paul Moun Hi, Ri, Archbishop of Daegu, and Most Reverend John Chrisostom Kwon, Bishop of Andong concelebrated Mass. There was a very large attendance, which included many Spiritual Directors and Council officers from all over the country. The reports show legionaries engaged in recruiting many catechumens as well as visitation and voluntary service at relief institutes. Andong Regia, which is now affiliated to the Daegu Senatus, has a total of 339 praesidia.
China
Taiwan Senatus:The focus of this report is the management and control of lower Councils. The Senatus has eleven lower Councils, 9 which require correspondents. There are 7 correspondents in the Senatus, one of whom corresponds with three lower Councils. Normal practice in the Senatus is that lower Councils report trice yearly. Three quarters of lower Councils were visited in a twelve-month period to February 2004. The visitation teams usually comprise the Senatus correspondent together with a second Senatus member.
Hong Kong Comitium:Items reported on included the teaching of catechism, Bi-monthly gatherings with non-Catholics, visitation of hospitals, contact work carried out in streets, in book fairs, trains and in parks. Also mentioned were prison visits, E-mail contact and Sunday School. Macau Curia has agreed to be supervised by Hong Kong Comitium for a period of five years.
EUROPE
Austria
Senatus of Austria:A discussion on the possible establishment of a Regia in Austria was held at the June meeting of the Senatus. Nine legionaries from Zwetti Comitium attended the winter school, 30 youths attended the winter camp and 50 children attended a Bible Night organised by the St.. Polten Comitium. Five new members took the Promise and 16 auxiliary members were recruited in Linz Comitium. Muehviertal Comitium started a praesidium m Moenchendorf closed the junior Curia and attached the four junior praesidia to the Comitium. Salzburg Curia has just a few praesidia. Innsbruck Comitium got permission to start a new praesidium following visits to four priests. The Comitium also started a Nazareth group and held night Adoration for young people. Bregenz Comitium had 40 at a family afternoon event and 20 at an Officers' Day. Klagenfurt Curia was raised to Comitium at the June Senatus meeting. The officers met with Bishop Alois Sclwarz in February. The new Comitium lias two Curiae attached, Oberkaernten and Gailtal. Graz Comitium had 18 at their Retreat, had five newly confirmed youths at a new youth praesidium and carried out extension work in three areas.

Hungary:
Budapest Regia organised a children's summer school for Hungary and Erdey, Western Romania. Szeged Comitium set up eight new praesidia. Czecli Republic: Two new praesidia were started in Prague Curia. The Curia organised a Marian Congress, which was attended by the Marianologist, Professor Rene Laurentin. Slovakia: The Zseliz Curia has eight praesidia, which have a total of 335 auxiliaries. The praesidia promote the Rosary in hospitals where protestants also join in. The Komoren Curia held a Marian Academic. A new praesidium was started by Truava Curia in Rimavska Sobota.
Croatia:
New Curiae are being planned.
Slovenia:
The Ljubljana Curia recruited five new active members.
Moldova:
The first Curia in Moldova was established on 6th June 2004 with seven praesidia. It is difficult for various reasons to meet monthly but the Senatus of Austria is encouraging .it to do so. Extension efforts were made by the new Curia in Benderi and Alexandreni and they started a students' praesidium in Chisinau.
Belarus:
Minsk Comitium:The Comitium is based on nine praesidia, six in Minsk and three distant ones. There are four attached Curiae, officers of which attend the Comitium meeting approx. every three months. A new praesidium resulted from a praesidium in Mogilev splitting. Baranovichi Curia has a problem with elderly legionaries who are unable to do active work but are unwilling to become auxiliaries, Stolbtzi Curia has a new junior praesidium. Molodedmo Curia has 12 praesidia.
All praesidia are doing very substantial apostolic work.
Poland:
Lublin Regia:Minutes up to January received. The Regia has four Comitia with a total of 160 praesidia and a total of 4,975 active and 15,724 auxiliary members. The legionary apostolate is very extensive and varied. Door to door apostolate is undertaken. One Curia visited over 3,000 families, A great many hospitals, including a psychiatric hospital are visited weekly. One Curia reported that 14 people were brought to receive the Sacrament of Penance. All praesidia conduct monthly meetings with auxiliary groups. Six legionaries took part in a Peregrinatio Pro Christo to Ostrawie. A Seminarians' praesidium in the Cathedral Curia has 30 members. One of their works is conducting catechetics in the school for blind children. 400 people took part in enclosed retreats. In acknowledgement of what was done to promote the Rosary during the Year of the Rosary, the Holy Father conferred the Apostolic Blessing on the entire Community of the Legion of Mary, Warsaw Comitium has a big programme of extension on hand with several new dioceses opening their doors, including that of Bishop Mazur who is now in Poland.

Argentina
Buenos Aires Senatus:The Senatus officers organised meetings with the officers of Corientes Regia during the Eucharistic Congress there in October 2003 to discuss the extension of the Legion in their vast area. All reports give an idea of the strength of the Legion and the number of parishes without the Legion. A huge variety of work is carried out; in one Council eighteen Protestants families were contacted and entry was gained to a home for the elderly run by a sect.
Salta Senatus:Legionaries contact people in the Square in front of the Cathedral, they invite Catholics to avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation and prepare them for the Sacrament where necessary. All parochial associations are promoted. A praesidium started a scout group for twenty-five children. A rural Curia in Metan has 228 senior and 136 junior legionaries. Outlying areas are not forgotten - there are 13 praesidia in the town and 19 in priestless villages and farms. All reports mention promotion of the three Causes, particularly that of the Servant of God, Alphonsus Lambe.
Cordoba Senatus:Fourteen legionaries from the Senatus attended the first Diocesan Legion Congress held on 26/27 June 2004. His Lordship the Bishop concluded the Saturday sessions.
Rosario Regia: A Curia with eleven senior praesidia visit a prison where they have set up a group of seven prisoners who recite the Rosary with Bible readings. Mass and the Sacraments are organised in the prison. Another Curia with twelve praesidia was responsible for the return of a family of Jehovah?s Witnesses to the Catholic Church.
Brazil
Sao Paulo Senatus:Senatus is preparing for the Golden Jubilee of the Legion in Sao Paulo on 7 September. In March a weekend conference for secretaries and treasurers of Councils in six states had an attendance of 110 along with the Spiritual Director and officers of the Senatus. They discussed the government of the Legion. The Senatus is looking at the restructuring of the Legion in the centre of Sao Paulo. A Comitium recorded almost 4000 visits to homes, almost 2000 sick visited at home and in hospitals, a number of children and adults were prepared for Baptism, 16 were received into the Church and 16 couples in irregular situations received the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Belo Horizonte Senatus:Among items covered in reports were the following: a weekly radio programme where the rosary is recited and the Legion magazine is read and explained; over 20,000 were contacted through recitation of the rosary in 8 public squares; in one town 11,000 were contacted. In some areas a programme of True Devotion to the Nation includes helping school children with literacy and schoolwork, 200 youths and adults were given a telecourse. In another parish 62 couples were prepared for a community celebration of Matrimony.
Rio De Janeiro Senatus:Young legionaries recite a public rosary and a leper colony in the Amazon region is visited. Copacabana Comitium carried out evangelisation in three schools with the active participation of the students. They also work with those suffering from autism. The Sacrament of Baptism is promoted in all areas. Several Comitia in the Senatus area have two junior Curiae attached.
Salvador Senatus:Local residents are invited to attend public Stations of the Cross. Visitation of the sick in homes and hospitals involves works of service. Two out of ten drug addicts visited were enabled to recover. Eight out of forty nine invited to join the Legion undertook active membership. Another Council gained twenty seven active members.
Brasilia Regia:The Regia Spiritual Director who is the Auxiliary Bishop of Brasilia attends every meeting delivering Allocutios of exceptional quality. The latest of the over 200 books published by him is on the apostolate of the lay groups in the Church. Among reports received were visits to Protestant Churches where talks giving the Catholic outlook on abortion were given. Twenty apartment blocks were visited on an Exploratio project.
Sao Luis Regia:The varied types of evangelisation undertaken are shown in a list of twelve different apostolates such as visits to houses for protection of the young, homes of the poor and catechesis of young and old.
Fortaleza Regia:A conference for officers of Councils and praesidia was held. In a three month period three senior and four junior praesidia were set up. Among works carried out are visits to a psychiatric hospital where patients have been abandoned by their families and the regularisation of many marriages.
Belem Regia:Praesidia and Councils are engaged in all types of work from prison visits to catechesis, home and hospital visitation, public rosaries and preparation of children and adults for the Sacraments.
Extension in Guatemala
Bernardo De Nardo from Argentina who was appointed as an Extension Worker to Guatemala by the Concilium has arrived there and has had meetings with the Comitium officers. He was impressed with their spirit and the good membership in praesidia. In a letter thanking the Concilium for trusting him with the mission to Guatemala, he said that for him, being a legionary of Mary was the most important thing in his life and that he found his vocation as a layman in the Church through his Legion membership.
Visit to Hungarian speaking Legion Councils
Aileen O'Donoghue, Vice-president of the Concilium and Tommy McCabe, former Secretary of the Concilium spent 12 days visiting Hungarian speaking Councils in Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and Slovakia. Over the past eight years, the number of Hungarian speaking praesidia has grown from sixteen to over three hundred. During their travels, the visitors from Concilium met three Bishops and seven Spiritual Directors of Councils and they had numerous meetings with Council officers. They found that the legionaries had an excellent spirit and they said they were confident that their short but very informative visit would enable the Concilium in consultation with the relevant Councils to guide the Legion in Hungarian speaking areas.
Sile Ní Chochláin President thanked both legionaries for undertaking the visit and she said their report would be considered in detail by the Concilium.

Overseas visitors who were warmly welcomed to the Concilium meeting included Rev. Fr. Janus Wegrzecki, Spiritual Director of Warsaw Comitium, Poland. Rev. Fr. Thomas McEntee, Spiritual Director of Montreal Curia, Canada, Rev. Sr. N. Mulvihill from Johannesburg Senatus, South Africa, John Peyton, Seminarian and former President of Birmingham Senatus, England, Miss Philpott from Northampton Curia, England and Dorothy Ware from Uganda. Also welcomed was a group of ten from Frankfurt Senatus, Germany including Maria Cech, President, Rev. Fr. Elias Wehr, O.F.M., and Rev. Fr. Claus Michelback who had come to attend a three day Summer School organised by the Concilium.
