A large Austrian group visits the Concilium
A group of 34 including 5 priests and 29 legionaries, mainly from Austria but including a few persons from adjacent countries visited the Concilium in July and 17 of them attended a 3 day summer school which dealt with the spiritual development of legionaries and the apostolate. The main group also attended the Concilium meeting and Dr. Andreas Seidl, president of the Senatus addressed the meeting. The following is a summary of his report:
As the Legion has been established for many years in Austria, the membership is ageing but most of the members in one Council are young mothers. The Senatus organises training days for officers in different places as well as a winter school for seniors and a summer school for juniors at Maria Roggendorf. Young people are contacted at various youth events. Special care is given to children through the running of weekly Nazareth groups and Nazareth Feasts. The Senatus has set up a students? Curia, an African praesidium in Vienna, a Croatian praesidium in Upper Austria and it has raised the Curia of Klagenfurt to a Comitium for Carinthia.
In 1969 the Servant of God wrote to Dr. Seidl and put the following proposal to him ?I would beg of you to accept the task of introducing the Legion into all these countries around you as a duty imposed on you by the Queen of Heaven herself. The Legion will be the future means of reviving religion in all of them.
As a result of this appeal regular visits were undertaken by Austrian legionaries to nearby countries in the intervening years. Dr. Seidl outlined the present position of the Legion in these countries as follows:
I am happy to say that with the help of Austrian legionaries Our Lady had her way into all these adjacent countries. This year the number of praesidia outside Austria (449) exceeded the number in Austria (430) for the first time. In Hungary and Romania the numbers have doubled during the last two years and are amounting now to 313. Croatia has 63 praesidia and an increasing number of Councils. Czech Republic has 20 praesidia and Slovakia has the same. In Moldova Austrian legionaries founded a Curia with 7 praesidia attached and 3 more in preparation.
Sile Ni Chochláin thanked Dr. Seidl for the tremendous extension work done by the Austrain legionaries in nearby countries and said the Concilium was deeply indebted to them for sacrificing their time and energies in setting up the Legion in these territories. The new legionaries in these countries are now undertaking extension themselves which shows how well they were trained by the legionaries from Austria.
